Leipzig University was founded in 1409 making it one of the oldest universities in Germany. Today it offers a wide spectrum of academic disciplines at 14 faculties. From A for African Studies to W for West Slavic Studies, Leipzig University is a classic university with the whole range of subjects from natural sciences through law, human and veterinary medicine to numerous arts degrees. More than 28,000 young people from over 150 countries are currently studying in one of the more than 150 courses.
The traditionally broad range of subjects also constitutes the basis for interdisciplinary research of the highest ranking. Following the maxim of “A Tradition of Crossing Boundaries”, the University is proud of its internationally acclaimed academic achievements.
At present there are 33 international study programmes offered at Leipzig University, and with its faculty encompassing Research Academy Leipzig (RAL) it is combining all structured (international) doctoral training programmes and provides sound scholarly and research-oriented qualification to ambitious academics.
The University reflects the variety in the world by its diversity on campus. More than 3300 students from 120 countries add an international dimension to the university. 39 binational postgraduate degree agreements supplement Leipzig University’s international spectrum.
