Founded by Queen Victoria in 1845, Queen’s University Belfast has a long history of academic achievement The Queen’s campus is sited in Belfast, one of Europe’s friendliest and most fashionable regional capitals, which is committed to economic prosperity, cultural development and building confidence in the innovation and creativity of its people. The international outlook of Queen’s is evidenced by the fact that a high proportion of its academic staff come from outside Northern Ireland. The Chancellor is the United States statesman, Senator George Mitchell. As one of Northern Ireland's largest employers with an annual turnover of some £210 million, Queen's has a huge impact on local wealth and job creation. It was one of the first UK universities to recognise the importance of bringing research excellence and entrepreneurial spirit to the marketplace and currently has a portfolio of 43 spin-out companies, employing more than 1000 people.
